On September 9, 2012 the owner noticed that the cat was symptomatic. An hour later, the owner observed that the cat had died. On September 12, 2012 the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS) to obtain help. The APSS veterinarian stated that the signs were not consistent with a dermal reaction to the product or with a paresthesia-type condition. The APSS veterinarian said that the signs are a classic presentation for a cat with a saddle thrombus. A necropsy was not available because the cat had already been buried.

The APSS veterinarian stated that the substance was considered to have a doubtful likelihood of causing the clinical situation and that a saddle thrombus was considered to have a medium likelihood of causing the clinical situation.
