On June 22, 2012 after the product had been applied, the owner noticed that the cat was lethargic. On June 23, 2012 the owner noticed that the cat had severe diarrhea. The owner was told by her parents that the cat was found dead in the yard on June 30, 2012. On July 6, 2012 the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS) to obtain help. The APSS veterinarian stated that rarely the death of a normally healthy cat with per label use of the product would not be expected. A necropsy was not available because the cat had already been buried for at least a week.
