(eg. description of the frequency and severity of the symptoms
1-31015247 - The reporter, a veterinary technician, indicated a cat was exposed to an insecticidal shampoo containing the active ingredients N-Octyl bicycloheptene dicarboximide, piperonyl butoxide and pyrethrins. The veterinary technician reported that the 6 pound, 6-year-old, female spayed, domestic long haired cat was bathed with this shampoo three days prior to initial contact with the registrant. Two days after bathing the cat was reportedly lethargic and comatose. The cat presented to the clinic three days after bathing and at presentation to the clinic the cat was not breathing but did have a heart rate. CPR was performed and the cat was revived. The reporter indicates that the cat is very jaundiced and has been treated with a dose of dexamethasone and with intravenous fluids. The caller was advised that the product can cause gastrointestinal upset but liver disease is not consistent with exposure to the product. Decontamination and symptomatic and supportive care was recommended. On callback 7 days later a worker at the veterinary clinic indicated that the cat passed away on its own while in the clinic a couple of hours after speaking with the registrant. No further information is available.
