1-30114018- The reporter, a veterinarian, reports and animal had presented that had been exposed to an insecticide containing the active ingredient phenothrin. The veterinarian reports the pet owner had applied a flea and tick topical product labeled for dogs 31-60 pounds to her five month female 12 pound mixed breed dog 2-3 days prior to the initial contact. The animal was vomiting, shaking, had muscle tremors, diarrhea, and bloody stool. The reporter had bathed the animal and done both a parvo and intestinal parasite screen, both of which were negative. The veterinarian was advised of the standards of care associated with pyrethroid overdosage in domestic animals. On follow-up the reporter indicated the animal had developed seizures and died at home after she had discharged it. No necropsy had been performed. No further information is available.
