On August 16, 2011 the owner took the cat to his regular veterinarian and contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS) to obtain help. The APSS veterinarian stated that cats are very sensitive to permethrins, and can develop central nervous system (CNS). The APSS veterinarian also stated that generally with treatment, the prognosis is good and that signs may persist for up to 72 hours. The APSS assistant recommended that the owner have the regular veterinarian call for information.

Later on the morning of August 16, 2011 the regular veterinarian contacted the APSS to discuss the case. The regular veterinarian stated that the cat had tremors, mydriasis, decreased pupillary light reflex, and a normal temperature of 38.0 degrees Celcius. The regular veterinarian had already given the cat 0.5 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg) of Diazepam twice intravenously, 100 mg of Methocarbamol rectally, a bath, and fluid therapy.
