On the evening of December 22, 2011 the owner observed that the cat had died. On December 27, 2011 the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS) to obtain help. The APSS veterinarian stated that dermal reactions to the product are possible. The APSS veterinarian discussed the mechanism of the agent by telling the owner that pulmonary edema may have resulted from the inhalation of the soaps. A necropsy was not available because the cat's body had been buried by the owner.
