On April 22, 2011 the owner noticed her dog was lethargic, depressed, had no appetite, and was ataxic. On April 26, 2011 the dog's inappetance and ataxia became severe, so the owner contacted the manufacturer, who told the owner to bathe the dog with liquid dishwashing detergent. Shortly after, the owner did bathe the dog per the manufacturer's instructions. Later that day, the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS) to obtain help. The APSS veterinarian stated that a dermal reaction could be seen with exposure to the product. The APSS assistant recommended the owner take the dog to the veterinarian and to have the veterinarian call for information.
