On an unknown date at an unknown time, the owner observed pustules under the dog's chest. On October 4, 2011 the owner noticed that the dog had a wound consisting of sores all over his body. On October 10, 2011 the owner observed that the dog had alopecia over its entire body. On October 12, 2011 the owner took the dog to the veterinarian and began providing symptomatic care by applying Sergeants Vetscription Benadene hot spot skin remedy to the dog's wounds. On October 16, 2011, the dog died. On December 2, 2011 the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS) to obtain help. The APSS veterinarian stated that the main concern was for gastrointestinal (GI) upset with ingestion and dermal hypersensitivity, and that serious or life-threatening signs would not be expected. The APSS veterinarian referred the owner to the manufaturer for reimbursement questions.
Death
The APSS veterinarian stated that the substance was not considered to be related to causing the clinical situation and that a bacterial infection was considered to have an unknown likelihood of causing the clinical situation. A follow up was not performed, because additional information was not expected.
