1-27611736- The reporter, a pet owner indicated his animal had been exposed to an insecticide containing the active ingredient permethrin. The reporter indicated he had applied the product, a flea and tick drop labeled for use on dogs, to his eight year twelve pound female domestic long hair cat the night prior. He was observing at the time of his initial contact muscle tremor and head shaking. The pet owner was advised that inappropriate use on cats of concentrated pyrethroids labeled for use on dogs can result in significant health consequences for the animal. He was advised of proper decontamination procedures and the threshold at which he should seek veterinary assistance. On follow up the pet owner stated he had bathed the animal and its signs resolved within 8-12 hours of onset. It was not necessary to see the veterinarian. No further information is available.
