On September 9, 2011 the owner bathed the cat with the shampoo product to treat for fleas. About 1 hour later, the owner applied a spot on flea product to the cat as well.

On the evening of September 9, 2011 the owner found the cat had died. On September 15, 2011 the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS) to obtain help. The APSS veterinarian stated that dermal irritation could be seen in some sensitive animals, but that serious effects to either product were not expected. A necropsy was not available because the owner had the cat cremated. The APSS assistant recommended that the owner call back with questions.
