Title 6(a)(2) letter for BASF Study Titled "Subacute 28-day inhalation toxicity study in Wistar rats dust exposure"

Date 19-JUL-11

2. a) Is an extension needed to translate the document?

No

3. Type of incident identified in the study

New health or environmental hazard

4. Describe the incident identified in the study (e.g. study demonstrates an increased risk to non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma after exposure to pesticide X)

The MCPA Task Force Three is submitting interim results of a subacute 28-day dust aerosol inhalation study in Wistar rats with MCPA acid, conducted by BASF SE. Ten male and ten female Wistar rats per test group were exposed (nose-only) to dust aerosol of MCPA acid for 6 hours a day, 5 days a week for 4 weeks (total 20 exposures). The initially targeted concentrations were 50, 200 and 1000 mg/m3. A concurrent control group was exposed to clean air. After the first 3 exposures, the concentrations were reduced to 20, 100 and 500 mg/m3 following clinical signs of toxicity, indicative of an extreme irritant response. The revised concentrations were administered from exposure day 4 for males and exposure day 3 for females until scheduled termination. See 6(a)(2) letter submitted to US EPA on July 19, 2011 for details on the most relevant results.
