Advantage 10 was applied to a male Papillion of unknown weight and unknown age on 27May09. An unspecified amount of time later in the day, the dog went into convulsions and died. Any treatments given in an effort to save the dog were not specified.

Seizures and death are not anticipated with appropriate topical administration of Advantage. From a toxicological point of view, imidacloprid does not have the potential to provoke seizures in vertebrates when administered topically. Though information is limited (no animal details, no past medical history), a connection with the product was deemed to be unlikely as signs are not consistent with product¿s pharmacological profile. Unclear why the adverse event was reported almost 2 years after its occurrence, thus the reliability of provided information must be doubted.
