Cow allowed back into treated pasture 30 minutes after chemical application. Pregnant cow was eating the treated grass, she gave birth to her calf 6 weeks early and then passed away.

The caller says within 2 weeks of exposure to chemical, his bull started to become sick. He had diarrhea and started to loose weight; symptoms are ongoing. Caller is seeking treatment advice.

The caller did not follow the directions on the product label. Cattle should not have been allowed back into the treated pasture for 48 hours, not 30 minutes after treatment. The following information was provided to the caller: When the animals eat the treated wet grass, the product has the potential to cause an upset stomach (nausea, vomiting an diarrhea) and large ingestions may cause muscle weakness. However we would not expect symptoms to persist for 3 months. Advised client to contact DVM and have the bull evaluated.
