On June 19, 2010 the cat began hypersalivating almost immediately after the owner applied the product. Shortly after, the owner called the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS). The APSS veterinarian stated use of flea and tick sprays per label directions is not expected to cause significant clinical signs. The concentration of active ingredients is typically quite low, so even ingestion of the agent via licking, does not pose a significiant threat of toxicity. The APSS veterinarian also stated licking the agent off the fur may cause a taste reaction that typically resolves by feeding a taste treat. The APSS veterinarian further stated that if recurrent grooming leads to recurrent taste reactions, bathing the product off the animal may be prudent. The APSS veterinarian recommended giving the cat a taste treat and calling back with questions.
