On October 4, 2010 the cat began hypersalivating, so the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS). The APSS veterinarian stated shampoos have a wide margin of safety. Because the ingredients are rinsed off with water it taste reactions are less common that with spot ons or sprays. The APSS veterinarian also stated methoprene has a wide margin of safety and is not expected to cause significant signs. The APSS veterinarian recommended wiping off the cat's coat/skin, dilution, monitoring the cat at home, and calling back with questions.
