On November 24, 2009 the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service and stated that the dog's signs begin after each monthly application and last for about five to seven days. The APSS veterinarian stated that dermal irritation or a contact hypersensitivity may occur with a topical exposure, and some animals exhibit abnormal behavior in response to the dermal sensation (paresthesia) associated with permethrin. The APSS veterinarian recommended bathing the dog with mild liquid dish washing detergent, applying Vitamin E to the application site, discontinue the product usage, consult with the veterinarian for a product without permethrin, and call back with questions.
