On November 3, 2009 the cat was licking and had tremors that might have been paw shaking or twitching. On November 4, 2009 the APSS veterinarian stated any dermally applied product can cause skin irritation or a hypersensitivity reaction, and topically applied pyrethrins can cause dermal paraesthesia reactions. He also stated that with treatment, signs can take 24-48 hours to resolve. The licking could be a taste reaction or may be related to stimulation of the skin. The APSS veterinarian recommended a taste treat, bathing the cat with liquid dish washing detergent , monitoring for dermatological signs, and calling back with questions.
