1-24318802- The reporter, a pet owner, indicates her animal was exposed to an insecticide containing the active ingredient phenothrin. The pet owner calls to indicate she has applied the product, a topical flea and tick drop for dogs, to her nine week female domestic shorthair cat. The reporter had applied the product to the animal within six hours of her initial contact with the registrant and reported seizures and panting in the animal at the time of the initial contact. The reporter indicated she had spoken with her veterinarian and it was recommended she wash her animal with a non-insecticidal shampoo, which she reported she had done at least four times ant the time of the initial contact. The pet owner was informed concentrated canine pyrethrin/pyrethroid spot-on type products can result in significant signs if inappropriately used on cats. The pet owner was advised of proper decontamination and to seek prompt veterinary care. On routine follow up the registrant was informed the animal was never brought to the veterinarian and had died. No further information is available.
