Signalment Age unknown Unknown weighing unknown amount. Agent Exposure Roundup Weed and Grass Killer Super Concentrate (observed agent id) Possible exposure occurred on Aug 20, 2010 at 12:00 PM CDT (possible ). Exposure involved unknown amount orally. The exposure was accidental, and occurred at animal owner field/pasture. [Note : Someone who works for the caller sprayed some thistles in the pasture on either 8-19 or 8-20. The concentration is probably on the high end of the label directions, although this is unknown. The last time anyone had actually counted the 6 sheep was sometime around the first of August. The owner comes weekly to give a mineral supplement and fresh water (?) but doesn't count them. On 9-11, someone was getting ready to mow the pasture, and told the caller there was a dead sheep. The sheep had an odor, and was infested with maggots so date of death was probably 2-3 days earlier. The caller had to leave and did not count the remaining sheep. When caller got back, found 3 other carcasses--2 of which only had a rib cage remaining. Unknown date of death. Owner is sure no coyotes, etc could get in pasture. He assumes the owner picked up the 2 live sheep. Unknown if they are healthy. There was no necropsy and tissue is in very poor condition (for the one found intact on 9-11). Advised to have a DVM examine the live sheep. Caller is not interested in this. Caller's phone rang and he hung up. Did not get a case number or fu phone #. (by [initial] on Sep 14, 2010 at 12:59 PM)] Because the amount was unknown consistent, the patient was considered to be at unknown risk of developing clinical signs. If signs develop, there is low risk that those signs will be life-threatening. [Note : Glyphosate is an amino acid inhibitor that affects the shikimic pathway in plants. Mammals do not have this pathway. Glyphosate is considered practically non-toxic via dermal and oral routes. However, the formulation frequently includes surfactants that can be irritating. Most yard use products will cause no more than mild self-limiting GI upset. (by [initial] on Sep 14, 2010 at 12:59 PM)] Clinical Status Death (4) {General Disorders} [Note : The dead sheep was discovered on 9-11, but the actual date of death is earlier. It is not known if any clinical signs preceeded death. (by [initial] on Sep 14, 2010 at 12:59 PM)] Permanent: Sep 11, 2010 at 12:00 PM CDT Status: Death Potential Cause Roundup Weed and Grass Killer Super Concentrate Because the time course was poorly consistent, the amount was unknown consistent, and the findings were poorly consistent, this substance was considered to have doubtful likelihood of causing the clinical situation.
