9/1/2010 11:20:11 AM Caller states that he is (age) years old and is sensitive to chemicals and pesticides. He recently had his water tested and the water test states that there is Chlorpyrifos also referred to as Dursban in his well water. He has recently been breaking out in hives and a painful rash on his torso, legs and arms. His MD states that he has Shingles but the medication he has been placed on is not improving his symptoms. He got his water test back yesterday and now feels that the pesticide contamination is the cause of his skin problems. He does not know the levels of chlorpyrifos in the well water. He is calling Dow AgroSciences only because chlorpyrifos is commonly associated with the brand name Dursban.

The information contained in this report is based on self-reported statements provided to the registrant during telephone Interview(s). These self-reported descriptions of an incident have not been independently verified to be factually correct or complete descriptions of the incident. For that reason, information contained in this report does not and can not form the basis for a determination of whether the reported clinical effects are causally related to exposure to the product identified in the telephone interviews. Chlorpyrifos is not typically associated with dermatological disease as the primary and only manifestation of illness even following significant direct exposure to what would be much higher concentrations when considering application concentrations. This patient has been diagnose with shingles which is caused by the Varicella zoster virus of the herpes virus family.. The diagnostic testing for for this viral disease is confirmatory and definitive.
