1-24051563- The reporter, a bovine specialist that works with the dairy industry, indicates possible exposure of livestock to an herbicide containing the active ingredient diquat. The reporter indicates he has been contacted by a producer that has 55 cattle that fed from an area near to a potato field treated with diquat. No discreet exposure was described. The animals were described by the producer that had contacted him as off their feed or had changed their feeding patterns. The producer asks about implications on milk production and potential harm to the animals. The caller was advised to consult appropriate regulatory authorities No further information is available.

No direct evidence of exposure. Symptoms are inconsistent with exposure to diquat. [Information received in duplicate IR received (2010-5994 - deleted) added manually by PMRA: Animals were in the field when product was applied and exposed to drift. In addition, drift affected neighboring alfalfa field (spotted damage 7-10 later). On the grower's initiative, three samples were analyzed. Two samples had non-detectable residues, one sample showed residues at 0.056 ppm level, which is below MRL for potatoes.]
