1-22497569: The caller, a veterinarian, indicates a patient of his may have been exposed to an herbicide containing the active ingredient Acetic acid. The caller indicates the 9 year, 31 pound, female, mixed breed dog has presented to him after one day of diarrhea and pacing. The owner of the dog reports they had applied the product to the lawn 3-4 days prior to the animal presenting to the veterinarian. The dog was reported to have access to the lawn. No exposure was observed. Details about application of the product are absent. The veterinarian reports he had the animal on IV fluids. He reports with the treatment provided the animal has stopped pacing. The caller was advised of the potential gastrointestinal irritant effect that may occur following ingestion of wet product. Dermal exposure to dried product applied to lawns would not be expected to precipitate the symptoms observed. The veterinarian was advised if he suspects ingestion symptomatic care would suffice.
