1-22699960- The reporter calls to indicate her dog has been exposed to a herbicide containing the active ingredients 2, 4-d (dimethylamine salt), mecoprop-p (propionic acid), dicamba (dimethylamine salt). She reports her husband applied the product to their residential lawn 4 days prior to the call (unspecified technique or rate). He had also seeded the lawn with the product "Turf Builder EZ Seed Mulch Grass Seed Lawn Fertilizer 1-0-0 1" (No hazardous ingredients by WHMIS criteria). No ingestion was observed. Two days later the 4 month Rottweiler dog developed diarrhea, vomiting, ataxia, salivation, and tremors. The next day the animal became lethargic and began to have evidence of blood in it s vomitus. The caller had taken the animal to the veterinarian the day of the call but was unable to pursue recommended diagnostics due to financial concerns. The veterinarian offered outpatient supportive care that included antibiotics, antacids and fluids due to observed dehydration. The caller was advised the delayed onset of these signs are not expected. Ingestion of small quantities of the product may yield gastrointestinal irritation immediately following exposure requiring supportive care. The caller was advised to follow with the veterinarian if the signs persist. On routine call back it was found the animal had been brought back to the veterinarian for intravenous fluid therapy and the owner had authorized blood work. No further information is available.
