1-21081256: A reporter (cat owner) called on 12/15/2009 to report his cat's exposure to a flea and tick shampoo containing the active ingredients Pyrethrins, Piperonyl Butoxide, and NOBD. According to the reporter, the shampoo was applied to the cat 3 hours prior to the report to treat a possible flea infestation. The reporter lathered the product heavily on the cat's head. Within 1 minute of product application, the cat had a seizure that lasted about 30 seconds. Following the seizure, the cat got quiet and died a few minutes later. The reporter was advised that while the product is not labelled for use on cats, it would still not be expected to result in the signs described. The signs of product overdose were reviewed, and the reporter was advised to consider other causes for the signs. A recommendation was made to consider necropsy to determine the cause of death. No further information was obtained. NOTE: This product is not labelled for use on cats.
