On March 29, 2009, the owner called a veterinarian, but was not able to afford treatment. Later on 3/29/09, the owner surrendered the pet to a humane society. On March 31, 2009, the owner called the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS) to find out what the outcome could be in this situation. The APSS veterinarian stated that cats are very sensitive to permethrins. Severe tremors and seizures are expected in this exposure. Left untreated, death is possible. With aggressive treatment and supportive care, many of these cats survive with no long term sequela. Recovery often takes days and can be expensive.

The APSS veterinarian stated that the substance was considered to have a high likelihood of causing the clinical situation. This product was not used according to label directions: "Do not use on cats".
