1-20060208: A reporter (fish owner) called on 09/19/2009 to report the exposure of his fish to an aquatic herbicide containing the active ingredient Diquat. According to the reporter, the 8 pints of product were diluted in 15 gallons of water and applied to a 1/4 acre pond on 09/17/2009. On 09/19/2009, the reporter observed 35 dead fish. The reporter also had concerns regarding his beef cattle that drink from the pond. At the time of the report, the cattle were asymptomatic. The reporter was advised that adverse effects would not be anticipated based on the dilute product being applied to a body of water. The reporter was also advised that the product binds tightly to organic matter upon application to water. A recommendation was made to contact the USDA for any withdrawal policies should the cattle be intended for slaughter.
