1-19486524: A reporter called to report the possible exposure of her fish to an aquatic herbicide containing the active ingredient Diquat. According to the reporter, the product was sprayed around the edge of a 1/4 acre pond on 08/04/2009. Three days after product application, there was a significant rainfall that raised the level of the pond. The reporter noticed dead minnows on 08/10/2009 and a massive fish kill on the day of the report (1st Subform III). The reporter was advised that diquat bonds strongly to soil particles even if the soil erodes into surface waters such as lakes, rivers, ponds, etc. If the product is applied directly to open water, the diquat binds to suspended particles in the water and disappears rapidly. The half-life in water is less than 48 hours. The reporter was advised that the signs reported are not consistent with the described product application. No further information was obtained.
