1-18831702: A reporter (animal owner) called on 06/15/2009 to report the exposure of her cat to a flea egg and larvae product containing the active ingredient Methoprene, and her dog to a flea and tick product containing the active ingredient Phenothrin. According to the reporter, the products were applied to the pets on 06/07/2009. Following product application, the cat (1st Subform III) became lethargic. On 06/08/2009, the cat was staggering around, had a hard time walking, and had intermittent dilation of his pupils. The cat was bathed at an unknown time and his signs improved for a few hours. The signs returned and the cat was bathed a second time, but he continued to be lethargic and not doing things the outside cat normally wanted to do. The cat died at home on 06/13/2009. He was never evaluated by a veterinarian. The reporter stated that the dog (2nd Subform III) lost her appetite following product application and has had a change in attitude. The reporter was advised that the signs described would not be expected from product use, particularly 2 weeks following product application. A recommendation was made to bathe the dog if the reporter believes the signs are product related and consult a veterinarian to determine the cause of the signs. NOTE: The reporter indicated that he did not separate the cat from the dog following application of the products. The canine product is labelled not to be used on cats or kittens.
