The owner bathed the cat with liquid dish soap and called the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS). The APSS veterinarian recommended that the owner monitor for dermatological and central nervous system signs, apply Vitamin E oil to the application site, and call back with questions.

The APSS veterinarian stated that the substance was considered to have a doubtful likelihood of causing the clinical situation. On June 13, 2009, an APSS technician spoke to the pet owner. The pet owner stated that her cat was dead when she awoke that morning. The APSS technician recommended a necropsy, but the owner declined.
