1-15994051: The reporter called on 4/9/08 to report his 1 month old female rat had experienced a seizure about 1.5 hours after he applied 1 drop of a topical flea and tick product containing the active ingredient Phenothrin. The reporter had questions regarding the toxic profile of the product. It was recommended he bath the rat with tepid water and hand dish detergent for 10 minutes, keep her warm, and take her to a veterinarian ASAP. The reporter was also informed that the active ingredient is not approved for use on rodents. A follow-up call on 4/10/08 revealed that the rat had died before he could finish bathing her. Necropsy was discussed but declined.
