1-15988404: The reporter called on 4/8/08 to report that her 3 cats had a reaction when she applied a topical flea and tick product containing the active ingredient Methoprene. She had applied it the previous night, and sometime later all 3 of her cats became very agitated, running around vocalizing and rubbing their backs trying to remove the product. The cat in the 1st subform III also laid in the litter box looking ill, and today he seemed to have a "burn" on the area of application. She had already washed the area off by the time of the call. In addition to the initial symptoms, the cat in the 2nd subform also scratched the hair off her neck, and the cat in the 3rd subform would not let anyone touch her. The reporter stated all 3 cats were OK now. She was requesting a refund for the product, and also requested that the product's side effects be explicitly listed on the package. Her concerns were documented. The safety profile of the product was discussed, and a recommendation was made to bathe the cats. The reporter was advised to monitor the 1st cat's "burn" for infection and to seek veterinary treatment if the "burn" persisted or worsened.
