BCMOE Conservation Officer conducted site visit. Landowner recently purchased property. Raccoon found dead in field so thrown over fence; Bald Eagle fed on carcass & immediately died; soon after landowners also found dead muskrat in their barn, as well as a pile of yellow powder.WHN08-26: BCMAL Animal Health Centre Case 2008-1541, 1542, 1543). Eagle brain cholinesterase 10.2 umol/min/g; raccoon/muskrat brain ChE not tested. Environment Canada examined Bald Eagle stomach contents; Some feathers, could be duck; lots of fatty slime; some small bone bits cannot identified. Stomach contents/lining was split in half and subsample submitted to CanTest for organophosphate & carbamate pesticides. Carbofuran 4.57 ppm detected (8584M-1). No raccoon or muskrat tissues were collected so pesticide analyses could not be conducted. BCMAL & CanTest lab reports attached; chromatographs available upon request.

Raccoon & muskrat found dead. Eagle died after taking a couple of bites from raccoon carcass. BCMOE called Environment Canada, as part of the BC Interagency Wild Bird Mortality Investigation; carcasses submitted to the BC Min of Agriculture and Lands Animal Health Centre for post-mortem exam; stomach analyzed at Contract lab for pesticides.
