1-16967351: A reporter called on 11/25/2008 to report the exposure of some Koi fish to an insecticide containing the active ingredient Lambda-Cyhalothrin. According to the reporter, the product was applied in a nearby area (details of product application unknown) on 11/24/2008. An unknown amount of product drifted into the fish pond. An unknown time following product exposure on 11/24/2008, the fish in the fish pond were coming to the surface of the water looking for air. Three fish died on 11/24/2008. The reporter did a 75% water change. At the time of the report, the rest of the fish (unknown number) had recovered and were asymptomatic. The reporter inquired about the toxicity of the product to fish and how long it would remain active in the water. The reporter was advised that the active ingredient in the product is very toxic to aquatic organisms. The reporter was also advised that the active ingredient does not persist in soil or water. The product sinks in water after 24 hours. A recommendation was made to contact technical support for further questions regarding product persistence in water. A recommendation was also made to contact a fish expert for other questions regarding care of the remaining fish. No further information was obtained.
