1-16363602: The reporter called on 7/5/08 to report the death of 2 of her cats after the application of a topical flea and tick product containing the active ingredients Methoprene and Tetrachlorvinphos. According to the reporter, she had applied the product to her 13 cats the evening of 7/4. She had left home after the application and had returned the evening of 7/5. Upon her return she had found two of her cats had died and three others were recumbent and vocalizing. At the time of the call, the remaining cats seemed asymptomatic and the reporter had bathed all the cats. A recommendation was made to have the symptomatic cats seen by a veterinarian immediately. The reporter refused the recommendation as she thought it was too late. A follow up call revealed that a total of 6 of the 13 cats had died. None had been taken to a veterinarian as the reporter had financial constraints. With the help of a friend who is a veterinary assistant, the reporter had been giving fluids and liquid żżżironżżż to the remaining cats (still asymptomatic). No additional information is available.
