1-16320329: The reporter called on 6/24/08 to report the application of a topical flea and tick product containing the active ingredient Methoprene to his 4 year old cat a few hours prior to the call. According to the reporter, the cat had licked some of the product off its neck and had subsequently developed some heavy breathing. The safety profile of the product was discussed, including the fact that ingestion of the product could result in minor GI upset. A recommendation was made to offer the cat tuna juice to help remove the taste of the product. An additional recommendation was made to bathe the cat in hand dish washing soap and take it to a veterinarian if the symptoms persisted or worsened. A follow-up call on 6/27 revealed the cat¿s symptoms had lasted for about 12 hours. The reporter did not take the cat in to a veterinarian for evaluation.
