1-16414554: The reporter called on 7/18/08 to report the exposure of her 5 year old female cat to a topical flea and tick product containing the active ingredient Methoprene. According to the reporter, the product had been applied 2 hours prior to the call and then the cat had gone outside for a while. When the cat had returned, her neck was wet as if she had groomed product off herself. She had also become agitated and had developed heavy breathing like panting. The safety profile of the product was discussed including the fact that it could as a GI irritant if ingested. A recommendation was made to bathe the cat in a non-medicated shampoo or hand dish washing soap and warm water, to give the cat fluids if vomiting did develop, and to seek veterinary care if the symptoms persisted or worsened. A follow-up call revealed that the cat¿s symptoms had resolved in 2 days.
