1-16486479: The reporter called on 8/5/2008 to report exposure of her two 4 month old kittens to a topical flea and tick product for dogs containing the active ingredients Phenothrin and Methoprene. According to the reporter, she applied the product to the kittens before she realized that the product was labeled for dogs. The application took place approximately 90 minutes before the call. The reporter bathed both kittens in baby shampoo and cool water 30 minutes before the call. At the time of the report, both kittens were asymptomatic. Product information was related in that the product is not intended for use on cats. A recommendation was made to bathe the kittens in luke warm water and dish washing soap without bleach to remove the product. It was also recommended that kittens be observed for the onset of symptoms of anorexia, diarrhea, vomiting or muscle tremors. If these symptoms occured, it was recommended that the report seek Veterinary care for the kittens. A follow-up call on 8/6/2008 revealed that the reporter bathed the kittens twice on 8/5/2008. One of the kittens experience shaking on 8/6/2008 which lasted 15 minutes and then the kitten recovered. No further information was provided.
