1-16480825: The reporter called on 8/4/2008, to report the exposure of his 3 cats to a topical flea product containing the active ingredient Methoprene. According to the reporter, the product was applied to his 3 adult cats on 8/1/2008. The reporter had used the product on all 3 cats for the last two years without incident. Within one hour of product application, all 3 cats began vocalizing which continued for approximately 20 hours. The following day 8/2/2008, the cats had areas of hair loss and dermal irritation at the application site. The cats had scratched at the affected area further worsening the symptoms. The scratched areas were forming scabs and healing. The safety profile of the product was discussed in that it has a wide safety margin. Vocalization would be considered rare. The hair loss and dermal irritation would be expected to improve going forward. It was recommended that if symptoms did not continue to improve or worsened the reporter should seek Veterinary care. Follow-up attempt was unsuccessful, no further information was provided.
