1-16037316: The reporter called on 4/18/08 to report she had applied a topical flea and tick product containing the active ingredient Methoprene to her 1 yr old male cat about 1.5 hours prior to the call. He had quickly become agitated after product application and was running around the house. The safety profile of the product was discussed. It was also explained that until the product dried, there could be a temporary tingling sensation that some animals find uncomfortable. This sensation could manifest as itching, scratching, or agitated behavior. A recommendation was made to bathe the cat in a non-medicated shampoo and seek veterinary care if his symptoms worsened or persisted. A follow-up call on 4/21 revealed she had bathed the cat with pet wipes to remove the product and he had felt better afterwards.
