1-16225000: The reporter called on 6/2/08 to report she had accidentally applied a topical flea and tick product containing the active ingredients Methoprene and Tetrachlorvinphos to her pregnant cat the previous day (6/1). Several hours later the cat had given birth to 7 kittens. According to the reporter, one kitten had been born dead. She had bathed the mother with a shampoo designed for humans as soon as she had realized her error. She also had bathed the 6 kittens. The reporter then stated 2 other kittens had died on 6/1 and a 4th kitten seemed to be dying during the conversation. The mother cat and 3 of the kittens had not developed any symptoms. The safety profile of the product was discussed, and a recommendation was made to have the kittens evaluated by a veterinarian ASAP. A follow-up call was placed on 6/4/08. The reporter revealed the 4th kitten had passed away and the remaining 3 kittens were fine. She refused to given any additional information.
