1-16156241: The reporter called on 5/17/08 to report the accidental exposure of a 5 year old cat to a canine topical flea and tick product containing the active ingredient Phenothrin. The product had been applied the previous day. According to the owner, the cat had begun tremoring after the product had been applied and the tremoring had persisted. The safety profile of the product was discussed. A recommendation was made to thoroughly bathe the cat in a non-medicated pet shampoo or hand dish soap, followed by immediate veterinary care if the symptoms persisted after the bath. A follow-up call on 5/19 revealed that the cat had passed away the evening of 5/17. It had not been taken to a veterinarian.
