1-16158180: The reporter called on 5/17/08 to report she had applied a flea and tick collar containing the active ingredient Tetrachlorvinphos to her cat about 7 hours previously. According to the reporter, 30 minutes prior to the call the cat had become agitated, running around the house drooling, panting, and scratching at the collar. The reporter had then removed the collar. By the time of the call, the cat had begun to calm down. The safety profile of the product was discussed, including the fact that sometimes cats who groom themselves after application of the product salivate from getting a taste of the product in their mouths. A recommendation was made to offer the cat water or tuna juice to drink. It was also recommended to bathe the cat in a non-medicated shampoo and seek veterinary care if symptoms persisted. A follow-up call on 5/19 revealed the reporter had washed the product off the cat¿s neck with cold water. The cat had settled down about 4.5 hours after the call. Veterinary care was not pursued.
