(eg. description of the frequency and severity of the symptoms
1-16383379: The reporter, a pest control operator, called on 7/10/08 to inquire about possible side effects from exposure to a diluted product containing the active ingredient Diquat Bromide. According to the reporter, the product had been used to treat a 6 foot deep pond on 7/7/08. The product had been applied diluted (volume of product used was 100 Liters over 4 hectares). A client¿s dog had then swum in the pond on 7/9/08 (53 hours post treatment), and had drunk some of the pond water. Early in the a.m. on 7/10, the dog had developed vomiting and diarrhea. He had been seen by a veterinarian, and had been reported to also have developed some mild dehydration. The veterinarian had run blood work, which had been normal. According to the reporter, the veterinarian suspected an E.Coli infection. The toxicology profile of the product was discussed including the fact that the dog probably had not consumed enough to cause toxic symptoms. A recommendation was made to rule out other causes (bacteria in the pond, etc.). A follow-up call by the reporter on 7/18 revealed that the Diquat level had measured 43 mcg/L 48 hr. post treatment, which was ¿ of the allowable level for drinking water to contain. The reporter believed the dog had recovered and that the veterinarian involved felt E. Coli was the cause of the dog's symptoms. The reporter inquired about the toxic potential for an 80 lb. dog ingesting Diquat at a dilution ratio of 43 mcg/Liter. A toxicological assessment was prepared and forwarded to the appropriate representative of the registrant.
Moderate
This exposure was well below any level in a risk assessment. The product applied to the pond was well below drinking water guidelines. The symptoms described above are not likely as a result of the above incident.
