On 16 May 2023, the veterinary technician contacted Elanco regarding a possible adverse effect of K9 Advantix II Large Dog (Permethrin, Imidacloprid, Pyriproxyfen) and Advantage Multi 55 (Imidacloprid, Moxidectin) in two dogs. Both dogs had both products administered in prior years with no adverse reactions. On 8 May 2023 the owners administered the K9 Advantix ll topically to each dog on the dorsal neck. On 11 May 2023 the owners administered the Advantage Multi 55 topically to each dog on the dorsal neck.

On an unknown date after application, the 2 year old, 14 kg, neutered male French Bulldog experienced oozing on the neck at the site of application. Photographs were received, are on file, and indicate application site erythema with mucopurulent discharge. The dog was not itchy. Medical records were received and indicated that this dog had pre-existing aggression and interdigital dermatitis which the owners treated with topical medications. On 15 May 2023 the dog was seen by a veterinarian who found crusting, pain and redness at the site of application. The dog was noted to be rubbing the area. Application site pyoderma was diagnosed and the dog was sedated to have the area clipped and washed, then treated with chlorhexidine, meloxicam, amoxicillin-clavulanic acid and topical triamcinolone-nystatin-gramicidin-neomycin. On 17 May 2023 the dog had a recheck examination indicating lesions were worsening, with the area now lumpy as well as continuing to be red and oozing. Oclacitinib and codeine were added to the treatment protocol. On 29 May 2023 the pet owner verbally reported to the reporting veterinary technician that the dog's skin was healing.

On an unknown date after application, the 4 year old, 15.3 kg, neutered male French Bulldog experienced oozing on the neck at the site of application. Photographs were received and are on file and indicate application site erythema with mucopurulent discharge. The dog was not itchy. The dog was examined by a veterinarian on 15 May 2023 and was found to have crusting, irritation, redness and soreness at the site of application. Pyoderma was diagnosed. The dog was treated with chlorhexidine and triamcinolone-nystatin-gramicidin - neomycin. On 17 May 2023 another area of pyoderma was shaved and treated. Oclacitinib and amoxicillin-clavulanate were added to the treatment protocol. On 18 May 2023 the pet owner reported the dog was panting after medications were administered, and had had soft stool. On 29 May 2023 the pet owner verbally reported that the lesions were healing.
