On 24 Mar 2022, Elanco was contacted by an animal owner regarding a potential adverse event involving a Seresto Cat collar. The collar was placed on the cat on approximately 01 Oct 2021.

On approximately 01 Nov 2021, an approximately 6-year-old, 3.35 kg., neutered female, Domestic Shorthair cat, developed cysts on her tail. On approximately 01 Jan 2022, the cat went to the clinic where biopsies were taken of the cysts on the tail. Following the biopsies the tail became infected and the cat began losing weight. The veterinarian recommended the tail be amputated (the owner did not want to amputate the tail). Further testing showed the cat had cysts on her liver, blood work showed the cat was not producing white blood cells and iron levels were bad (unspecified). The veterinarian recommended euthanasia. The owner took the cat to an emergency clinic who diagnosed the cat with an enlarged heart and the cat was having difficulty breathing and had fluid inside her body in addition to previously discovered issues at the first clinic. The emergency veterinarian said the cat needed surgery (to remove cysts on the liver) but probably would not survive. The veterinarian recommended a blood transfusion or euthanasia. The owner said he thought the cat had cancer (never officially diagnosed). The owner took the cat home and she died on 04 Mar 2022. 2022-05-31 Registrant clarification: At the time of the report the cat weighed 3.35 kg. When the collar was placed on the cat, the cat weighed 4.08 kg and then experienced weight loss.
