(p.ex. description des symptômes tels que la fréquence et la gravité
On 09-Aug-2021, a 5 year old, approximately 58 pound, neutered, male, dog of unknown breed, in unknown condition, with no known concomitant medical conditions, was administered 1 tube of Parapet K9 Praventa 360 for Extra Large Dogs 25kg or More (Imidacloprid, Permethrin, Pyriproxyfen) via the topical route by the animal owner. Approximately 2 hours after application, the dog developed vomiting, heavy breathing, and agitation. On 10-Aug-2021, the dog developed swelling (edema) of the skin around the eyes and mouth. The owner bathed the dog using an unspecified dog shampoo and the signs continued. Seeking veterinary care was recommended. The owner declined seeking veterinary care for the dog. Two attempts to obtain follow-up information were made but messages were not returned by the owner. No further information has been received.

Assessment: The initial signs of agitation and heavy breathing are consistent with paresthesia (tingling of the skin) that may occur in some animals following topical application of a pyrethroid insecticide, including permethrin. These signs tend to be mild and self-limiting. Vomiting is possible if the dog was able to ingest the product from the application site while still wet. Swelling around the eyes and mouth may be due to an allergic reaction, which is unpredictable and rare but possible following use of any topical product. The information contained in this report is based on self-reported statements provided to the registrant during telephone interview(s). These self-reported descriptions of an incident have not been independently verified to be factually correct or complete descriptions of the incident. For that reason, information contained in this report does not and cannot form the basis for a determination of whether the reported clinical effects are causally related to exposure to the product identified in the telephone interviews.
