(p.ex. description des symptômes tels que la fréquence et la gravité
On approximately 17-Sep-2021, a 5 year old, 36.36 kilogram, non-pregnant non-lactating, intact female, Labrador Retriever/Mastiff crossbred dog, in unknown condition, with no known concomitant medical conditions, was administered 1 collar of Hartz UltraGuard Flea and Tick Collar for Dogs (Tetrachlorvinphos (Rabon)) via the topical route by the animal owner. On 19-Sep-2021 the dog developed lethargy and anorexia. The dog also had one episode of hematemesis (bloody vomit) though this was reported to the owner by their children and not witnessed them. No further vomiting occurred. The collar was then removed intact. On 21-Sep-2021 the anorexia continued. The lethargy improved slightly but continued. The dog had not been evaluated by a veterinarian and no treatment was performed. Bathing the dog using mild liquid dish soap for further product removal was recommended. Veterinary evaluation was recommended if signs persisted or worsened. No further information was received.

Assessment: This product contains tetrachlorvinphos, an organophosphate insecticide, that is considered to have a good margin of safety in dogs. The active ingredient is poorly absorbed across intact skin. If product residue were ingested only mild GI upset would be expected. The collar was removed intact with no evidence of the dog chewing on it directly or ingesting any pieces. Other causes should be considered including dietary indiscretion, toxin exposure, infectious disease, or pyometra (given this is an intact female). The information contained in this report is based on self-reported statements provided to the registrant during telephone interview(s). These self-reported descriptions of an incident have not been independently verified to be factually correct or complete descriptions of the incident. For that reason, information contained in this report does not and cannot form the basis for a determination of whether the reported clinical effects are causally related to exposure to the product identified in the telephone interviews.
