On 09 Sep 2021 Elanco was made aware of an adverse event involving Advantage Multi 100 (Imidacloprid, Moxidectin) and K9 advantix II Extra Large Dog (Permethrin, Imidacloprid, Pyriproxyfen) in a canine/ dog.On 01- Jun- 2021, a 5 old, 29.5 kg, neutered, female, Retriever - Labrador canine/dog, in unknown condition, with unknown concomitant medical conditions, was administered 1 tube of Advantage Multi 100 (Imidacloprid, Moxidectin) topically by the owner. Approximately 2 weeks after application, on 15 Jun 2021, the dog began itching and scratching. On 23 Jun 2021 the same patient was administered 1 tube K9 advantix II Extra Large Dog (Permethrin, Imidacloprid, Pyriproxyfen) by animal owner. On 01 Jul 2021 the dog received another dose of advantage multi 100. The symptoms persisted. On 23 Jul 2021 the dog was administered another dose of K9 Advantix II Extra Large. The symptoms continued. On 01 Aug 2021 the dog received another dose of Advantage multi 100. The symptoms continued. On 23 Aug 2021 the dog received another dose of K9 Advantix II extra large. The symptoms continued.

On approximately 26 Aug 2021 the pruritus worsened and the dog developed facial inflammation, otic inflammation, brown ear discharge, and lost hair in these areas. On 06 Sep 2021 the pet owner bathed the dog. The symptoms continued. On 9 Sep 2021 the dog presented to the veterinarian with the complaint that the itchiness and facial alopecia had progressed over the course of treatment. A skin scraping revealed the leg of an unidentified parasite. The dog was also diagnosed with otitis externa and has dark brown build up in the ears. The veterinarian noted dandruff. The ears were sensitive to being touched and tried to bite when they were touched. The dog was noted to have grade ii/ ii tartar and subcutaneous swelling of the metatarsal area. A suspected mite or flea leg was found on skin cytology. The dog was treated with miconazole nitrate, polymyxin B sulfate, prednisolone acetate suspension and loratidine. The symptoms are ongoing. The dog has used both Advantage multi and K9 Advantix II in the past without issue.
