Seresto Collar Small O - Unclassifiable/unassessable The product is not anticipated to cause serious neurological disorders such as seizure after appropriate topical product administration as the controlled release mechanism assures release of only low doses of active ingredient at a time. Even with oral product exposure, seizures are not seen. Merely gastrointestinal signs may occur. Any action or treatment may trigger seizures in an animal with a respective disposition. Various etiologies exist for seizure events or paroxysmal signs, e.g. heart disorder, development disorder, metabolic disorder, infection, intoxication, idiopathic epilepsy, trauma, neoplasms. Further, fatal outcome of death is not expected following appropriate topical product application as inconsistent with products pharmacological profile. Overdose of 5 collars around the neck of adult cats for an 8 months period and in 10 week old kittens for a 6 months period did not cause serious signs. This is supported by the extremely low systemic exposure with imidacloprid and flumethrin, particularly during the first week after application and also thereafter. Many information is missing in this case e.g. animal details, circumstances of death and necropsy details are unknown. Overall, the product involvement is considered as unassessable. Advantage Plus Spot-on pipette size unknown N - Unlikely Serious nervous system disorders such as seizures are not anticipated with topical administration of product. From a toxicological point of view, neither imidacloprid nor pyriproxyfen does have the potential to provoke seizures in vertebrates. In case of oral ingestion of a considerable amount of product or after administration of an overdose shortly after product application, neurological symptoms such as tremor, ataxia, depression, miosis or mydriasis may occur. But seizures are not expected. Various aetiologies exist for seizure events or paroxysmal signs, e.g. heart disorder, development disorder, metabolic disorder, infection, intoxication, idiopathic epilepsy, trauma, neoplasms. Further, death is not expected after product application, as inconsistent with pharmaco-toxicological product profile. Oral exposure to the product is not expected to cause serious conditions leading to death either. The product was administered to puppies/kittens at up to 5 times the recommended dose, every 2 weeks for 6 treatments and there were no serious safety concerns. No signs of allergy/anaphylactic reaction which would have occurred in close proximity to product application. Other unrelated causes are more probable in this geriatric animal. Product was well tolerated for long duration without any adverse event. Time to onset is unknown from recent administration of the product. Overall, a product relation to the case is considered as unlikely.
