On an unspecified date in approximately 2017, a 10 year old, 12.9 pound, unknown, female, Terrier - Jack Russell crossbred dog, in unknown condition, with no known concomitant medical conditions, was administered an unspecified amount of Fipronil via the topical route by the animal owner. On an unspecified date in approximately 2017, the dog was also administered an unspecified amount of K9 Advantix (unspecified) (Imidacloprid - Permethrin) via the topical route by the animal owner. On 16-Jul-2018, the dog was administered 1 tube of K9 Advantix II Medium Dog (Imidacloprid-Permethrin-Pyriproxyfen) via the topical route by the animal owner.

On approximately 15-Jul-2018, the dog developed generalized pruritus. On 17-Jul-2018, the dog began seizing, vomiting, vocalizing and became limp. The owner consulted with a veterinarian and recommended emergency care. The owner washed the dog with an unspecified shampoo and the dog died. Due to the sensitive nature of the communication, specific relevant details were not obtained, nor will they be sought. No Necropsy was performed.

O - Unclassifiable/unassessable It is known that, at recommended dosage, none of active ingredients in the product have the potential to provoke seizures in dogs neither alone nor in combination. Only mild neurological signs, e.g. tremors or ataxia, may occur even after oral uptake. It is more likely a coincidental occurrence or dog may have predisposition for idiopathic seizures. Limpness is not expected after product application. Vomiting and vocalizing are very unspecific signs, however these signs along with reported limpness are likely associated with reported seizures in this case. Death is not anticipated after product application, as inconsistent with pharmaco-toxicological product profile. The geriatric dog likely died due to serious underlying condition. Even though time to onset is consistent, considering overall aspects, a product relation is unassessable.
